Deborah Balk is associate director of the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research. She is a member of the Graduate Center faculty in the sociology and economics programs, and professor at Baruch College's School of Public Affairs. Her current research focus is on urbanization, population, poverty, and environmental interactions such as climate change.
