The Municipal Art Society supports community based planning in low and moderate-income communities in New York City.

Ms. Hanhardt has worked as a planner at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Planning, the Department of Ports and Trade and the Community Service Society. She was the founding Executive Director of the Salvadori Educational Center on the Built Environment.
