Prof. Jerry Carlson

Jerry W. Carlson is a profesor of film studies at the City College of the City University of New York and a producer for CUNY TV. A specialist in narrative theory and the cinemas of the French and Spanish speaking peoples, he has lectured in France, Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and elsewhere.
Dr. Carlson hosts CUNY TV’s weekly movie showcase, “City Cinematheque.”
He created and produced Charlando con Cervantes, a 40 part series of interviews with artists from Spain and Spanish America. In addition, he has produced more than 50 episodes of television dedicated to Latin American cinema. He was guest editor of a special issue of Review: Latin American Literature & Arts focused on Latin American film. His current projects include a book length study Migrating Spirits: Cinemas of the Tropical Atlantic and several films with Latin American colleagues.
Educated at Williams College (B.A.) and the University of Chicago (M.A. & Ph.D.), he was named a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques by France.
