America’s past and present natural glory is seen is this multi-series presentation, consisting of miniseries Legacy of the Great Plains, The Historic South, and The Geologic West, each with multiple episodes. The designation National Monument was first created in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt, designed to identify significant pieces of the country’s history, ecology, geology and beauty, and to preserve them for all Americans. Individual programs in this ambitious collection consist of virtual tours, Park Ranger accounts, historic and cultural (esp. Native American) significance, scientific and natural aspects, and geologic concepts, all in descriptive and poetic presentations.
Legacy of The Great Plains, narrated by actor Bo Svenson, visits 10 monuments associated with America’s once-vast grasslands. The Historic South, narrated by Jordan Murphy, explores the Southern United States and Virgin Islands, showing 12 monuments ranging from the prehistoric era to the Civil War. The Geologic West, narrated by Jordan Murphy, journeys to 11 spectacular monuments in America’s Pacific Northwest that depict this region’s history and biodiversity.
