Original tape date: November 10, 2017. First aired: December 5, 2017.In October, the Museum of Korean American Heritage unveiled the first comfort woman statue in New York City. This statue honors the thousands of Korean women whom the Imperial Japanese Army forced into sexual slavery during World War II. Now, a group of New Jersey high school students is trying to get a comfort woman memorial established to honor these women but the students quickly faced dissension, red tape, and learned a valuable political lesson. Reporter Minnie Roh provides an in-depth look at this painful chapter in history, and how New Jersey students are trying to raise awareness.
Korean skincare products are exploding in popularity and in sales around the world, and the United States is one of the fastest growing markets. A big reason for this growth is Korean American entrepreneurs who are helping to bridge the divide between an ever changing and innovating Korean beauty industry and American consumers. Reporter Kyung Yoon explains why these products are the hottest trends.
Some of you may get invited to a holiday party where you’ll see a grand ice carving gracing the room. But have you ever stopped to think about the artist behind the sculpture? Reporter Minnie Roh talks to one of the most prolific ice carvers in the world, and shows you how he’s taken this age old craft and elevated it into a true art form.
Turn up the heat with 2018 calendar “Haikus With Hotties,” featuring Asian American male models and poetry. Host and Reporter Ernabel Demillo went behind the scenes with one of the models, Mr. November, who shares his life story.
