First aired: March 22, 2017.When Dr. Joyce Brown became the first woman and first African-American president of The Fashion Institute of Technology in 1998, the college had 5,600 students, stagnated program development, and no strategic planning, according to the university. Today, it's arguably one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the country. It also has several other degree programs ranging from film, advertising, cosmetics marketing, and more.
In this episode, Dr. Brown joins Carol Jenkins to discuss how she went from working as the Deputy Mayor for New York City under David Dinkins to the person credited for FIT's transformation. They also talk about The Museum at FIT's exhibit titled, Black Fashion Designers.
