Stanley Nelson is a Multiple Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, MacArthur “genius” Fellow, National Humanities Medalist honoree and Founder of Firelight Media.

Known for his films such as "The Murder of Emmett Till" (in which he won a Primetime Emmy and Peabody Award), "Freedom Riders", "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" now joins us to discuss his latest film, "Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities".

Being the child of parents who attended HBCU's , this story is also personal. This film is the first, full-length documentary chronicling the rich, complex history of HBCUs. It is co-directed by Marco Williams and produced and written by a team of all women.
