Haiti Film Festival
Haitian Cultural Exchange was founded in 2009 by a group of Haitian women who felt that there was a void of cultural organization in the Haitian community. They created an interdisciplinary space for artists to connect to their roots. This month, they organized The Third Biennial Haiti Film Festival, which took place in venues across the city, giving a platform to emerging Haitian filmmakers to share their work.

Fatoumata Diawara
Born in Ivory Coast to Malian parents Fatoumata Diwara first made her mark with international audiences as a Paris based actress. In recent years she has applied her talents to composing and performing her own songs. Her debut album of 2013 Fatou was universally praised. The same year National Public Radio deemed her one of the “breakout artists” at the annual globalFEST in New York City.

Marie-Monique Robin
Award winning French writer and filmmaker Marie Monique Robin never shies away from tough subjects. Her documentary The World According to Monsanto takes on the effects of genetically modified products as controlled, developed, and marketed by the giant transnational corporation Monsanto. Originally broadcast in France in 2008, the film inspired a book of the same name. More that five years later, the work continues to provoke questions of high concern.
