Episode Details

On this episode of City Works, host Laura Flanders is joined by three experts on organized labor for a “report card” on workers' rights under the second Trump administration.

Alex Press is an award-winning journalist who’s written extensively on labor organizing. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, The Nation and Jacobin Magazine.

Elaine Kim is Director of the New York State AFL-CIO/Cornell Union Leadership Institute. She also worked on the leadership team at 32BJ SEIU, the largest property service union in the country.

Paul Ortiz is Professor of Labor History at Cornell University, and a PEN-award winning writer. He is the author of "African American and Latinx History of the United States" and co-editor of "People Power: History, Organizing and Larry Goodwyn’s Democratic Vision in the Twenty-First Century".

The three speak to Laura about ways in which the federal government has been attacking public and private sector unions, and what history can teach us about combatting these anti-union efforts.
