Rick Lifton is the 11th president of Rockefeller University, a gem of a research institution located on Manhattan’s East River that has boasted 24 Nobel laureates on its faculty. Lifton, a physician and geneticist, has brought to Rockefeller a special expertise in genome sequencing — analysis of genetic material to predict the occurrence of hereditary disease long before diagnosis is possible. He tells Jim Zirin that Rockefeller is poised to extend its science as never before to benefit humanity.
