The deal foundered when Trump withdrew in 2018. Meanwhile, the U.S. assassinated an Iranian commander, and the Israelis sabotaged an Iranian nuclear plant. Veteran diplomat Frank Wisner, who has been conducting back channel negotiations with Tehran, hopes to put the deal back on track before the summer when the Iranians hold their elections.
