TweetEpisode Details
Original tape date: February 24, 2009.Moderator Bob Liff and a panel of experts examine the financial crisis in New York, as well as the government’s efforts to stem it. Particular attention is paid to the recent stimulus package passed by Congress and the priorities outlined by President Obama as he attempts to help resolve long-term problems in the nation’s economy. At the local level, the panel explores the new political dynamics in Albany, while assessing broader trends on Wall Street and in New York City’s real estate market. Responding to questions from the student audience, the panel also takes up the question of government effectiveness in the context of globalism and widespread breakdowns in consumer confidence. Can government act to nationalize risk, while maintaining efforts to privatize profit? Stay tuned.
