Himan Brown grew up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, a colorful neighbor that welcomed Jewish refugees from Europe. This tailor’s son from Odessa was partly shaped by this neighborhood, and by the opportunities offered to him by both his schools and the Brooklyn Jewish Center, where he met the up and coming playwright Moss Hart.
