Join Brian Lehrer as he takes a look at the renderings for Moynihan Station, or Penn Station, as we know it currently. The designs for the complete renovation of the “gateway to New York”, are somewhat inspired by the original structure of Pennsylvania station, which in 1963 was transformed into the underground structure we currently see. The push to renovate Penn Station was seen as the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan's last gift to the city. However, with efforts to get the project started dating all the way back to the mid 1990's it is unclear when the Empire State Development Corp. will be given the green light to begin renovation. Randy Plemel, an architect's assistant and creator of the photo blog GrubbyKid.com, and Matthew Shuerman, a commercial real estate and economic development reporter for The New York Observer join Brian Lehrer to discuss the Penn Station as well as the plans for Brooklyn Bridge Park, which is slowly appearing to be more of an apartment complex than anything else. The recent advertising campaign “Stand up, Speak up,” efforts to discourage racism in the World Cup soccer tournament, is also discussed.
