1.) 1854 - Yung Wing Becomes the First Chinese American to Graduate From a U.S. College
Yung Wing founded the Chinese Educational Mission, which brought Chinese students to American colleges
2.) 1854 - Chinese Six Companies Represent All Chinese in the United States
Chinese Six Companies, also known as Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Associations, helped Chinese immigrants and Chinese businesses.
3.) 1862 - Chinese Americans Distinguish Themselves in the American Civil War
Chinese immigrants, like Joseph Pierce, fought as soldiers during America's Civil War.
4.) 1865 - Chinese American Laborers Build the Transcontinental Railroad
Chinese Laborers, working for the Central Pacific Railroad, owned by Leland Stanford, helped build the Transcontinental Railroad, which was finished at Promontory Point, Utah.
5.) 1882 - Congress Passes the Chinese Exclusion Act
The Chinese Exclusion Act impacted Chinese American Civil Rights.
6.) 1884 - Joseph and Mary Tape Successfully Challenge San Francisco Public Schools
Joseph and Mary Tape, worked to obtain civil rights and equal rights for their children's schooling, but the California Supreme Court ruled the children must attend a, separate but equal Chinese primary school.
