First aired: February 28, 2015.New research findings by nonpartisan research group MDRC on CUNY's Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) reveal that community college graduation rates doubled when CUNY students received a network of support including intensive advising, tuition wavers, tutoring, and money for books and transportation. The study, called "rigorous" by The New York Times, calls the CUNY program a highly promising strategy for raising graduation rates among educationally and economically disadvantaged groups. This hour-long program presents the Feb. 25 press conference announcing the study's conclusions, and includes CUNY Chancellor James B. Milliken; Anthony Shorris, First Deputy Mayor, NYC; Donna Linderman, University Dean for Student Success Initiaitves, CUNY; Michael Weiss, Senior Research Associate from MDRC; and Loukman Lamany, an ASAP Graduate from Bronx Community College (2011) and a Baruch College graduate (2014).
