Suki Ports discusses how her gradual awareness of Japanese internment during World War Two along with family health issues helped her become a community activist, founding the Family Health Project.
She explains that it was the Council of Churches who held the first conference on AIDS for people with color as a response to the lack of information coming out of the New York State Prison System. The poor have always been with us, she explains, drug use has always been with us, the difference today is AIDS. Ms. Ports shares the differences in the way varied ethnic groups respond to aids information and that it needs to be addressed.
