First aired: April 12, 2023.Eva Santos, an immigrant rights activist from Dominican Republic meets with her friend Andrew Avila after some time of not seeing each other, she updates him talking about her achievement: enrolling in CUNY and winning The Dream US scholarship. As well they both open up, and share intimate experiences with issues of divorce, children, power struggles and abuse.
Cesar Chox is a Maya-K'iche artist. He was born in the department of Sololá in Guatemala. He came to New York at the age of 16 and left Laura, her partner who was expecting his first child, Bryan, in his hometown. Cesar migrated to be able to financially support his family. After not seeing each other in person for 15 years, Laura has just come to NY. Cesar has never met his son Bryan in person. He is looking to start the process to be able to bring it to NY, with the help of the Tepeyac organization. Tonight César is going to participate in a collective exhibition in Times Square.
Tisa is a filmmaker from Zambia whose work explores themes of immigration,
identity, and what it means to belong. We will follow her on the process of making her film “Kitchen Party”, named after the pre-wedding celebration, that trains brides-to-be in the traditional expectations for a Zambian wife.
