First aired: September 21, 2016.
On this edition of Independent Sources, hosted by Garry Pierre-Pierre, we'll be looking at the issue of police-community relations as it relates to the 2016 presidential election. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton says everyone must respect the law, but officers must show respect for the communities they serve. Meanwhile, Republican nominee Donald Trump claims he is the best candidate to restore law and order, accusing his opponent of being against the police. Joining us to discuss this topic are Professor Monica Varsanyi, Political Science Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and author of Policing Immigrants: Local Law Enforcement on the Front Lines, and Professor Alex Vitale, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Brooklyn College.
