Original tape date: November 28, 2008.The Honorable Piero Bassetti, Italian Politician, Philanthropist, Author, Social Philosopher is interviewed by Anthony J. Tamburri, Dean of the Calandra Institute, at the Institute in Mid-towm Manhattan. Mr. Bassetti is currently the President of Globus et Locus, an Italian Swiss Consortium dedicated to rigorous and critical academic research and analysis on the effects of globalisation on the local area of City of Milano.Globus et Locus also researchs and analyses the Italian immigration, or italian diaspora, and its myriad influences on both Italy and the many other countries like America, Australia, Canada, Argentina, and Britain that it has reached.
Suze Rotolo. an Artist and Author recently presented a reading and signing of her new book "A Freewheelin' Time; A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties", as part of The Institute's Writer's Read Series. Ms. Rotolo, who has lived most of her life in New York City and its Greenwich Village, was a social activist at an early age, a red diaper baby, and her communist parents form part of the lost history of italian american political radicalism in the United States. In 1961 Ms. Rotolo met a young folk singer in Greeniwch Village and had a brief intense young love affair with him. That young man became the international musical icon Bob Dylan. The Book is no kiss and tell, but a heartfelt vivid portrayal of a place, a scene, a time period, and a young man and woman and their love affiar that would ultimately influence so much during one of our country's greatest times of social change.
