First on ITALICS, we’ll exclusively take you to se the Galileo, The Medici’s and the Age of Astronomy exhibition, held recently at the Franklin Inastitute in Philadelphia, Pa, This once in a lifetime exhibition held in one of the Nation’s most renowned Scientific Institutions celebrates the 400 Anniversary of Galileo’s “invention” of the Telescope. The Galileo exhibit also explores the deep influence of the powerful Medici Family of Renaissance Tuscany, in Italy, on the intersecting disciplines of science and art, and how this helped to shape our view of The Universe as we know it. One of the two remaining Galileo telescopes in existence and drawing compasses used by Michelangelo are among artifacts included in the exhibit ITALICS Producer & Director Bill Schempp toured The Galileo exhibition, and spoke with Derrick Pitts, Chief Astronomer of The Franklin Institute and US Representative of The International Year of Astronomy 2009 Celebration.
B.) Next ITALICS goes to The Garibaldi-Meucci Museum’s Rededication Ceremonies held this summer at the Museum in Staten Island NY. More than 150 people joined Museum President/ and CEO John Dabbene to rededicate the National Landmark after undergoing several restoration and improvement projects.
C.) Then ITALICS takes you to the National Italian American Foundation’s 2009 East Coast Gala Awards honoring Actor/Singer Paul Sorvino among other luminaries.
D.) on an extended version of ITALICS News Briefs we will provide a comprehensive list of all of the myriad events the Calandra Institute will sponsor during the upcoming Italian Heritage and Culture Celebrations and over the next few months.
