Original tape date: October 19, 2009.A.) The National Organization of Italian American Women celebrate the Honorable Geraldine A. Ferraro, on the 25th anniversary of her nomination as Candidate for Vice-President of the United States of America, and on her career as a Congresswoman and Member of the US House of Representatives, at their annual luncheon. Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman, and first Italian American ever nominated for the Vice Presidency on a National Party Ticket. Gov. Mario Cuomo was the afternoon's keynote speaker and joined many luminaries in honoring Ms. Ferraro on her Lifetime of Achievement. Dean Anthony Tamburri, of The Calandra Institute/CUNY, interviewed Congresswoman Ferraro before the event began. NOIAW's annual luncheon was held at the legendary Waldorf- Astoria Hotel and Michael Amante charmed the audience with his vocal style.
B.) Legendary Poet and Performance Artist John Giorno reads the poem, "La saggazza delle streghe/the wisdom of witches" from his recent work, "Subduing Demons in America" Mr. Giorno was the founder of the artist collective Giorno Poetry Systems and was an innovator and influence in spoken word performance and multi/mixed media presentations. Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Patti Smith,William Burroughs,Phillip Glass,Robert Mapplethorpe,Laurie Anderson, are some of the many and varied artists that Mr. Giorno has influenced and collaborated with.
