Original tape date: January 26, 2010.A. ) ITALICS goes to an International Conference on the legacy of the Late NYPD Detective Joseph A. Petrosino, and the current status of the Italian Government's war against the Mafia in Sicily, One Hundred years after Petrosino's murder there. A Blue Ribbon Panel, comprised of members of Law Enforcement, Government, and Education from Italy and The United States convened at John Jay College of Criminal Justice/CUNY, one of the Nation's Leading Institutions in the field of Criminology, to investigate and debate the Petrosino Legacy, and Organzied Crime in Sicily today. Legendary NYPD Detective Joseph A. Petrosino was among the first Italian Americans in the NYPD, and as Lt. Petrosino was the leader of the first Organized Crime division of the NYPD, known as the Italian Squad. Lt. Joseph Petrosino was killed while on undercover investigation in Palermo, Sicily, 1909. To this date, Detective Joseph Petrosino is the only NYPD Officer killed on duty while serving abroad.
B) ITALICS Then joins The National Organization of Italian American Women/NOIAW, as they celebrate the holidays with their annual Ephphany event, honoring "Three Wise Women" from the Community. This year NOIAW honored Marietta DiChristina, Editor in Chief of Scientific American Magazine, Dr. Concetta M. Tomaino, Director of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function, and Maria T. Vullo, Partner in the Litigation Department of Paul, Weiss, Rifkin, Wharton, & Garrison LLP.
