A large audience of students and staff participated in a lively question and answer period after the lecture. At a Luncheon following the event, ITALICS spoke with Cav. Joseph Coccia Jr. namesake of the Coccia Institute like its, and its Director Mary Ann Re, along with the Hon. Andrea Barbaria, Consul General of Newark, and members of New Jersey’s Italian American State Heritage Committee.
Next ITALICS goes to a dinner honoring Gianfranco Fini, President of The Italian Chamber of Deputies. A Tri-State Coalition of Italian and Italian American Organizations and Entities sponsored the event honoring Minister Fini on the occasion of his recent visit to Washington DC and New York City. More than 800 people jammed the ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Regency at Grand Central Terminal to celebrate Minister Fini and hear his comments. The Honorable Guilio Terzi di Sant’Agata, Ambassador of Italy to The United States, introduced Minister Fini to the audience. During his comments, Mr. Fini stated that the ties between the people of Italy and America were deeper than politics and that as a nation, Italy supported many of the strategic endeavors of the United States, and that their collaboration would exist well into the Century.
Then ITALICS goes to a panel discussion that poses the question Why (and exactly how) New York Simply Loves “Italian” at New York University. Sponsored by NYU’s Food Studies program, panelists include restaurateurs, critics, scholars and other “Foodies” discussing and preaching New York City’s collective belief in the gospel of la Cucina Italiana.
