Original tape date: November 23, 2010.First on ITALICS, we’ll take you on a Flight to the Future Through Music and Art as we join ILICA, The Italian Language Inter Cultural Alliance on their 6th Annual Cultural Event held recently at the Lighthouse at Pier 61 at Chelsea Piers. With Art by Alessandro Marrone and Music by Pianist/Composer Cristiana Pegoraro propelling the event, Cav. Vincenzo Marra and ILICA honored the legacy of the Late Frank D. Stella, and presented their Award in his name to Anthony Julian Tamburri, Dean & Executive Director of The Calandra Italian American Institute/Queens College/CUNY, for all of his efforts in the advancement and study of the Italian language and culture.
Next ITALICS takes you to the Calandra Institute where an agreement was recently signed between Queens College of The City University of New York and The Universita Di Stranieri di Perugia in Italy to greatly expand the cultural exchange program that currently exists between both Institutions. For The last 15 years the Calandra Institute’s CUNY-ITALY Exchange Program has been involved in student exchange with Perugia, but this new effort will exchange staff and resources between both entities and give each University space in the others’ home facility.
On ITALICS NEWS BRIEFS we’ll join CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein and members of the CUNY Brain Trust on their recent visit to the Calandra Institute, watch as Bordighera Press announce their 2010 Poetry Prize Winner, and report on that penultimate victory in the AP Italian Test effort.
