First on this edition of ITALICS dedicated entirely to Italian American Scholarship, we’ll talk with Dr Fred Gardaphe, Distinguished Professor of English and Italian American Studies at Queens College/CUNY and the Calandra Institute. We’ll explore and discuss some of his recent works and publications like, The Art of Reading Italian Americana, a collection of literary Reviews, Reconstructing the Italians of Chicago, co-edited with Dominic Candeloro, a collection of stories about their hometown
and Importato Dall’Italia, short stories by Gardaphe translated from English into Italian for the Italian audience.

Next we’ll talk with Dr. Joseph Sciorra, Associate Director of Academic and Cultural Programs at The Calandra Institute, and our Folklorist in residence. Dr. Sciorra discusses some of his recent projects and works including: his Editorship of the newly revived social science journal the Italian American Review, his new book Italian Folk, Vernacular Culture in Italian American Lives, and The Exhibition and Catalogue from, Graces Received, Painted and Metal Ex-Votos from Italy, currently installed at the Galleria at The Calandra Institute.
