First aired: June 27, 2012.First on ITALICS we'll join the National Organization of Italian American Women, NOIAW, as they celebrate Dr. Aileen Riotto Sirey's Retirement as Founder and Chair after more than 32 years. Lidia Bastianich, Matilda Raffa Cuomo, and the Hon. Natalia Quintavalle, Consul General of Italy in New York were among the many who gathered to honor Dr. Sirey on her Leadership, which has influenced Women and the Greater Italian American Community. ITALICS Correspondent Lucia Grillo reports on the NOIAW Luncheon from the Metropolitan Club in Mid-town Manhattan.
Next on ITALICS we'll preview the new feature film, "Union Square", with its Director, Nancy Savoca, and its Star, Mira Sorvino, Academy Award Winning Actress. Lucia Grillo speaks with Ms. Sorvino and Ms. Savoca, along with other members of the film's cast, from its Premiere at New York City hotspot RSVP. "Union Square", by Nancy Savoca, will be released in NYC at the Angelika Theatre on July 13th.
Then ITALICS takes you to the unveiling of the new Vito Marcantonio Conference Room at Hostos Community College of The City University of New York. Hostos Professor Emeritus Gerald J. Meyer, who donated the funds to create the conference room for the Campus Community, is the Author of the book "Vito Marcantonio, Radical Politician", now in its fourth printing. At the Dedication, President Felix Matos Rodriguez joined members of the Hostos Community in honoring Professor Meyer for both his charitable largesse and his forty years of service to the College.
We also see a brief announcement of Dr. AJ Tamburri receiving The LaGuardia Award, from the CSJ/OSIA and B'Nai Brith.
