Calandra Italian American Institute’s Galleria; and chat with New York University Professor Antonio Monda about his new book, “L’america non esiste.”
ITALICS will take you to Forest Houses in the Bronx, in the midst of which artist Thomas Hirschhorn’s “Gramsci Monument” was constructed and became a central focus – for residents and visitors - for two months. We’ll talk with Mr. Hirschorn about the project and get a feel for the events that took place at the monument dedicated to the great Italian Marxist philospher.
Next, we’ll join ITALICS correspondent, Lucia Grillo, at the Calandra Institute’s Galleria for the exhibition opening “Lo studio dei nipoti: Four Artists.” Lucia Grillo and the Calandra Institute’s Rosangela Briscese will talk with the featured artists about their artistic process, their Italian ancestry and Italian American upbringing, and their experience working alongside eleven fellow Italian American and Southern Italian artists in Monasterace, Calabria, the location of their summer 2013 residency.
Then, we’ll go to New York University’s Tisch School of The Arts for an afternoon chat with Antonio Monda – writer, film director, journalist, co-founder and Artistic Director of "Open Roads: New Italian Cinema" festival, and professor of Italian Cinema – about his book, “L’America non esiste.”
