Calandra Institute staff report on the Italian Diaspora Studies Summer School at the University of Calabria.
Maria Piccone, also known as Maria Filice is publisher of Telos Press, which has served as an international forum for discussions of political, social, and cultural change via applications of contemporary critical theory. She is also a cookbook author, who dedicates a portion of profits from her signature amaretti cookies, “Mammaretti by Maria Filice” – kosher, gluten- and lactose-free – towards helping build playgrounds for children around the world.
The Italian Diaspora Studies Summer School is a collaborative program between the University of Calabria and the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute/Queens College/CUNY. Three staff members of the Calandra Institute who participated in the program this past summer report on the success of the program in its inaugural year: Fred Gardaphè, Distinguished Professor of English and Italian American Studies, Dr. Joseph Sciorra, Director of Academic And Cultural Programs and Editor of the Italian American Review; and Rosangela Briscese, Assistant Director for Academic and Cultural Programs and Managing Editor of the Italian American Review.
