TweetEpisode Details
Original tape date: December 11, 2018. First aired: February 12, 2019.On this month’s episode we spoke with Francesco Carlo, in art known as “Kento”, one of most noted rappers in Italy.
Francesco “Kento” Carlo is also an activist and blogger who lives in Rome but hails from Reggio Calabria. He is the winner of the Premio Cultura Contro le Mafie and promoter of Hip-hop Smash the Wall, a project in collaboration and in solidarity with the Palestinian
scene. He runs a popular blog on one of Italy’s most important newspapers, Il Fatto Quotidiano, and he is on the board of directors of Lips—Lega Italiana Poetry Slam.
An author as well, he published the memoir, Resistenza Rap: music, struggle, and (perhaps) poetry / how hip-hop changed my life.
We visited with “Kento” at both presentations of his book at York College and the Calandra Institute in New York.
