This edition: Emma Stebbins at The Heckscher Museum of Art

Episode Details

Original tape date: February 10, 2026. First aired: March 23, 2026.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we visit the Heckscher Museum in Huntington, New York, to speak with Karli Wurzelbacher, curator of the recent exhibition Emma Stebbins: Carving Out History.

This exhibition is the first to recognize Emma Stebbins (1815–1882) as one of the most significant American sculptors of the nineteenth century. While her Bethesda Fountain in Central Park has been a global icon for more than 150 years, the full scope of Stebbins’s life and work has remained largely unknown.
