What lessons can Spain give us about the value of cooperation in an authoritarian time? A vicious civil war followed by decades of rule by the dictator Francisco Franco led the country to respond to its authoritarian challenges by encouraging various cooperative efforts, including the formation of Mondragon, a collection of cooperative business that grew to be one of Spain’s largest corporate entities, as well as new political parties like Barcelona en Comú, with a policy agenda that includes defending social justice and community rights. Host Laura Flanders travels to Spain to report on the growth of cooperative models and speak with numerous citizens involved with them, including Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau and others.
