En este episodio empezamos en Midtown con Patricio Lerzundi, quien nos introduce a Miriam Colón, fundadora del Teatro Rodante Puertorriqueño y afamada actriz que nos habla de su largo recorrido profesional y nos da su visión de la importancia del teatro en nuestra sociedad.
De ahí nos vamos a navegar por los orígenes de la bachata en la República Dominicana. Músicos destacados del género nos hablan de la relación de la bachata con el bolero romántico, así como de sus dificultades en la interpretación de este estilo musical.
Después nos vamos a Brooklyn, donde Carmen Boullosa charla con el escritor y columnista chileno Rafael Gumucio, considerado uno de los autores más destacados de su generación y que además, pasa grandes temporadas en la ciudad de Nueva York.
Y finalmente nos vamos al Centro de Graduados de CUNY, al Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos, del Caribe y Latinos, donde su director Laird Bergad nos describe el Latino Data Project, el cual se dedica a analizar los patrones de conducta del comunidades latinas.
Today, we begin in Midtown with Patricio Lerzundi, who introduces us to Miriam Colón, founder of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater and famous actress, who tells us about her long-spanning career and gives us her take on the importance of theater in our society.
From there, we retrace the origins of bachata music in the Dominican Republic, where outstanding musicians talk about the relationship between bachata and the romantic bolero and the difficulties musicians faced when playing this style.
Then we go to Brooklyn, where Carmen Boullosa chats with Chilean writer and columnist Rafael Gumucio, considered one of the great authors of his generation, who spends long periods of time in New York City.
And we finish at the CUNY Graduate Center, at the Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies, where its Director, Laird Bergad, describes the Latino Data Project, which investigates patterns within Latino communities.
