Original tape date: November 5, 2009.Comenzamos este episodio en Brooklyn. Carmen Boullosa recibe al español Jorge Herralde, editor y fundador de Anagrama, editorial que con más de 2.500 títulos publicados, es una de las más importantes del mundo literario hispano.
A continuación, cruzamos el East River para llegar al Centro de Postgrados de CUNY en Midtown, Manhattan. Presenciamos la firma del acuerdo del Programa de Certificado en la Industria Hotelera entre la Universidad de la Ciudad de Nueva York y el gobierno mexicano que beneficiará a cientos de trabajadores de restaurantes y hoteles de la ciudad.
En Lincoln Center, en el umbral del Upper West Side, hablamos con Juan Carlos Zagal, integrante del grupo chileno Teatro-Cinema, quien vino a Nueva York con su última obra “Gemelos”, resultado de la fusión del teatro y del cine sobre el escenario.
Y de un escenario a otro, vamos al Festival Cultural Latino en Queens. Allí, nos encontramos con Tola y Maruja, personajes creados por Carlos Mario Gallego y Sergio Valencia, la pareja de comediantes más famosa de Colombia.
We begin this episode in Brooklyn. Carmen Boullosa chats with Spaniard Jorge Herralde, editor and founder of “Anagrama”, a publishing house which, having published more than 2500 titles, is one of the most important in the Hispanic literary world.
Then, we cross the East Rive to CUNY's Graduate Center in Midtown Manhattan, to witness the signing of the Hospitality Certificate Program's agreement between CUNY and the Mexican Government. This initiative will benefit thousands of Mexicans who work in restaurants and hotels around the city.
At Lincoln Center, on the edge of the Upper West Side, we talk with Juan Carlos Zagal, from the Chilean theater group Teatro-Cinema, which brought their latest work “Gemelos,” to New York, a fusion of theater and film on stage.
Then we go from one stage to another, that of the Latin Cultural Festival in Queens, where we meet Tola and Maruja, characters created by Carlos Mario Gallego and Sergio Valencia, Colombia's most famous comic duo.
