Comenzamos este episodio en Astoria, Queens, donde conoceremos el último trabajo del pianista y compositor uruguayo Gustavo Casenave. Junto a su esposa, la pintora Vicky Barranguet, Gustavo acaba de presentar en Nueva York el show “Tango Casenave”, una propuesta escénica que funde diferentes disciplinas artísticas bajo un denominador común: el tango.

A continuación, haremos una breve parada en Baruch College, para asomarnos a la conferencia organizada junto con el consulado de México para abordar los temas más candentes que hoy afectan a la comunidad mexicana en Nueva York, como la propuesta de ley conocida como “Dream Act” que proporcionaría la residencia a miles de estudiantes indocumentados.

Más tarde, seguimos en Manhattan a Patricio Lerzundi en su encuentro con Mara Henríquez, responsable de servicios comunitarios de YAI, una organización que lleva mas de 50 años ayudando a las personas con discapacidades. Además, tendremos ocasión de conocer el testimonio María Aler- Reyes, madre de Randy, un joven de 18 años que desde los dos ha formado parte de los programas capacitación y apoyo de esta organización.

Y finalizamos en la cocina de Maya y Juan, dos jóvenes que nos cuentan su experiencia en identificarse como parte de la comunidad de lesbianas, gays, bisexuales, transexuales y los Q, no conformes de sexo, también conocida como LGBTQ. A partir de su historia, nos acercamos a conocer el trabajo de “Make the Road” en Nueva York y sus campañas sociales y políticas en apoyo a esta comunidad.

We begin today's show in Astoria, Queens,where we will learn about the latest work of the Uruguayan pianist and composer Gustavo Casenave. In collaboration with his wife, painter Vicky Barranguet, Gustavo has released in New York the show Tango Casenave, a stage production that combines different forms of art and where the common denominator is tango.

Then we will briefly stop at Baruch College, to have a look at the conference organized by CUNY and the Mexican Consulate to talk about the hot issues for the Mexican community in New York, like the Dream Act, a legislative proposal that would grant residency to thousands of undocumented students.

Later, in Manhattan, Patricio Lerzundi meets Mara Henríquez, Community Services Supervisor in YAI, an organization that for over 50 years has helped people with disabilities. We will also learn the story of María Aler-Reyes, mother of Randy, an 18-year-old boy that from the age of two has taken part in training and support programs provided by this organization.

We will finish the show in Maya and Juan's kitchen. They will talk about their experiences after identifying themselves as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and gender non-conforming community, also known as LGBTQ.

From there, we pop in to learn about the work of Make the Road New York in Brooklyn and Queens, and about their political and social campaigns supporting this community.
