We begin at the Instituto Cervantes, where Carmen Boullosa interviews the Peruvian painter Fernando de Szyszlo, key figure in Latin American abstract and surrealist art. Fernando talks to us about Paris in the 1940s with Octavio Paz and about his way of understanding painting.
Later, at the Latin Alternative Music Conference, or LAMC, we speak with the Mexican duo Master Plus, who perform tecnocumbia. They found success via the Internet while winning fans through their live performances.
In El Barrio, we meet Jennifer Cruz, who, as part of the Latina Big Sisters of New York, dedicates two afternoons a month to Yasmine Holley, her "Little Sister". Over the years of spending time together they have developed a close relationship of mutual respect.
We end in Midtown with the members of Vida Urbana, the only station from New York that promotes hip-hop in Spanish. With Taima, Rogelio and La Bestia, we will learn about the importance of transmitting this urban music that has so little presence in mainstream media.
