Episode Details

We start this episode in the barrio, in Manhattan to learn about the work of the non-profit foundation "El Taller." Its founder and artistic director, Bernardo Palombo, talks about its different cultural and artistic programs which seek to broaden the horizon of the new immigrants as well as create a modern sense of community.

We then go to Washington Heights to New York's Dominican Film Festival. There we talk to the Dominican director Alejandro Andújar about his award-winning film, "The Watchman," along Héctor Haníbal, the lead actor, and we talk about the inspiration for his work as well as the film's production process.
 
Then, in Queens, Patricio Lerzundi interviews Carlos Villegas, who since his adolescence in Colombia felt curious about studying the production process of suits that would lead him to create the Excalibur suit in New York. This and other inventions led Carlos to write "Archetype of the modern man."

We conclude in Midtown, where we meet Californian filmmaker Daresha Kyi. She talks about her documentary, "Chavela," which won second place in the Berlin Film Festival. She also talks about how her Mexican friends led her to know the personality of Chavela Vargas and how easy it was for her to decide to co-direct this project.

Iniciamos este episodio en El Barrio, en Manhattan, para conocer el trabajo de la fundación sin ánimo de lucro “El Taller.” Su fundador y Director Artîstico, Bernardo Palombo, nos habla acerca de sus diferentes programas culturales y artísticos, que buscan ampliar el horizonte de los nuevos immigrantes y crear un sentido moderno de comunidad. 

Luego vamos a Washington Heights, al Festival de Cine Dominicano de Nueva York. Allá, hablamos con el director dominicano Alejandro Andújar sobre su multipremiada película, El hombre que cuida. Junto a Héctor Aníbal, actor protagonista, conversamos sobre la inspiración de su trabajo y el proceso de realización de este film.

Después, en Queens, Patricio Lerzundi entrevista a Carlos Villegas, quien desde su adolescencia en Colombia, sintió la curiosidad de estudiar los procesos de producción de trajes que lo llevaría más adelante, ya en Nueva York, a crear el traje X-Caliber. Este y otros inventos llevaron a Carlos a escribir “Arquetipo del hombre moderno”.

Y terminamos en midtown, para conocer a la directora de cine de origen Californiano Daresha Kyi. Ella nos cuenta acerca de su documental Chavela, ganador del Segundo puesto en el Festival de Berlin. Tambien, acerca de como sus amigas Mexicanas la llevaron a conocer el personaje de Chavela Vargas, y lo facil que fue decidirse a co-dirigir este proyecto.
