On this episode of Nueva York, John Gutiérrez, professor and director at John Jay College, takes an eye-opening look at key moments when Latinos and immigrants have faced persecution and harsh anti-immigration policies in the U.S.

Renowned Colombian journalist María Jimena Duzán presents her new documentary Después del Frío, co-produced with the International Center for Transitional Justice, and reflects on the urgent challenges facing today’s media as it comes under attack.

And as September is Suicide Prevention Month, we join forces with MINDS Sessions, an initiative that uses art to spark awareness about mental health. Mexican singer Alex Moreno shares his “anticorridos”—songs that challenge the glorification of narcos in norteña music while underscoring the importance of mental health.
