Original tape date: December 26, 2025. First aired: January 8, 2026.We visit Saint Peter’s Church in Manhattan, where we talk with Father Fabián Arias about his work supporting immigrants facing serious challenges to their legal status. The visit reaffirmed New York’s role as a sanctuary city and reminded us that there is always hope in the fight for the rights of the most vulnerable.
We then go to Macaulay Honors College, where writer Carmen Boullosa interviews renowned Mexican architect Felipe Leal. Leal, known for transforming major public spaces in Mexico, comes to New York to sign an agreement between the Seminario de Cultura Mexicana and the Institute of Mexican Studies at CUNY. His vision of cities designed to improve people’s well-being and happiness invites reflection on how we inhabit urban spaces.
We finish at the Brooklyn studio of Guatemalan artist Juan Carlos Pinto, who for over twenty years has transformed MetroCards into portraits celebrating New York’s visual identity. With the cards’ disappearance, his work takes on an unexpected documentary value.
