Berger's career has been an exemplary one: diplomatic correspondent for Newsday and the Washington Post, reporter for the New York Times, and White House correspondent for NBC, amongst her many postings. Her new book, “This is a Soul: The Mission of Rick Hodes,” is about the personal and professional odyssey of a doctor who has spent most of his professional life treating patients in some of the poorest countries, who have some of the most horrific diseases. The book has just been published by William Morrow. Her other project is being the de facto mother to Danny, a young Ethiopian boy she met in Addis Ababa and brought to Dr. Hodes for care, and who Dr. Hodes officially adopted. Danny now lives with Marilyn in New York.
