In her memoir, "My Race: A Jewish Girl Growing Up Under Apartheid in South Africa" Ms. Abramson describes living in a police state, frankly illustrating the rigidity of the government and the fear of its citizens. A multi-medal winner in competitions in South Africa and in the Maccabee games in Israel, Lorraine Abramson felt free only when she was running.
