It’s been eight years since the terrible economic crash of 2008 threatened to throw us into a depression. We’re still limping through a seemingly endless recovery period and the memories and scars from that crisis are still raw. A compelling new book tells us, incredibly, that our policymakers and the business community haven’t learned very much at all from that long and terrible experience. The book is called “Makers & Takers: The Rise of Finance and the Fall of American Business,” and its author Rana Foroohar, the economic columnist for Time magazine and global economic analyst for CNN, joins Bob Herbert to hash through the causes and effects of many U.S. financial policy decisions from the past 40 years.
