This edition: Examining a Polarized Nation with Miles Rapoport
TweetEpisode Details
Original tape date: November 10, 2016. First aired: November 21, 2016.After the longest, craziest, most contentious and uncivil campaign in memory, Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States. It has caused great jubilation in some parts of the country – and dismay, even despondency in others. For those who haven’t noticed, our country is badly polarized. And it faces enormous challenges.
The economy works primarily for the favored few. Voting rights remain under serious assault. Our system of financing campaigns – dominated by big money, and often dark money – is a scandal. And issues related to racial justice, immigrant rights and the way we treat women in this society were front and center during the presidential campaign, and should remain so now.
Bob talks about all of this with guest, Miles Rapoport, a longtime democracy advocate who has served as secretary of state in Connecticut, as the president of Demos here in New York, and as the president of Common Cause.
