This documentary honors the life and legacy of Pura Belpré, a multi-cultural educator and storyteller who wrote and reinterpreted Puerto Rican folk talks. As the first Puerto Rican and Latina librarian in the New York Public Library system, she was an ambassador of the library’s work with the Puerto Rican community. She was the author of more than ten books for children and an innovator in the use of puppets, arts and crafts as educational tools to teach kids how to read, write and express themselves.
