As AIDS ravaged the city, three gay teachers’ fight for equal rights led to the establishment of a gay and lesbian comedy club that flourished in of all places, an old mortuary. The Valencia Rose Cabaret, Café, and Restaurant is believed to be the first gay-owned and operated comedy club in the USA.
