Statisticians display data in a table in order to investigate relationships that may exist between the groups. To do this, they often transform the data into counts or percents. One must be careful to remember that, although this transformation creates interval or ratio values, like percentages, the underlying data is still categorical. Clear patterns in the data will appear if a relationship between the categories exists.
