TweetEpisode Details
Original tape date: March 1, 2024. First aired: March 22, 2024.In this new episode of “THEATER: All the Moving Parts”, the Tony Award-winning creatives of “Dead Outlaw” and “Corruption" join host Patrick Pacheco to discuss their respective Off-Broadway shows torn from the headlines. Up first, book writer Itamar Moses, director David Cromer, and songwriter David Yazbek, the team behind “The Band’s Visit,” speak about “Dead Outlaw” the bizarre tale of Elmer McCurdy, a deceased desperado who “lived” on as a sideshow attraction. Then, playwright J.T. Rogers and director Bartlett Sher (“Oslo”), explore the treacherous tale of “Corruption”, dramatizing the British phone-hacking scandal which almost brought down the Murdoch media empire.
Pacheco says, “The truism that life is stranger than fiction is more than validated in both “Dead Outlaw” and “Corruption” and this episode’s guests point that out with extraordinary wit, honesty and philosophical smarts. The program's levity and wisdom stems from the conviction that all show folk are basically “carnies,” hucksters plying their craft along a midway called "the theater" with the hope that their work will ring a bell with audiences.”
