The story of the rise and fall, birth, and death of the mythical town of Macondo and the Buendía family is recounted in this novel, which launched the new genre of magical realism and gave Latin American literature a world stage. Footage of the author, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, mixes with images of magic to express the atmosphere of the novel. Featured speakers include writers Sandra Cisneros and Adam Felber, and Ilan Stavans of Amherst College.
